SOME PAST HIGHLIGHTS:
This is a collection of some of the news we've posted over
the months and years. It will give you a sense of the
road we've travelled ...
12/31/06
Who Invited You?:
We did! Hope you got a chance
to see TJ Short's rendition of Mama (ala Mama's Family!)
for the Christmas production of Who Invited You? which
the Drama Guild performed twice on Dec. 17th. Five year-old
Hannah Norvelle did a top notch job (and was just too
cute!) as young Amanda, one of the key players in this
production, helping to present a simple, yet powerful
message that was well received at Meadows Fellowship.
We have a number of projects on the board for future
podcasts, so if you missed this one, if all goes well,
it will be up as a podcast in time for this Christmas
...and if we're lucky, the script will be available by
August, for those churches that would like to perform
this fun short play later this year or just enjoy reading
it!
12/3/06
When's the next Podcast?:
Life is getting in the way, but we have our next
podcast almost ready to go. Keep an eye out for "What
are the Odds?" coming soon! We have plenty of skits
and plays filmed, but it takes some time to prepare them
for release as a podcast, so thanks for being patient!
If you haven't posted feedback on iTunes, one of the other
Drama Guild podcasting sites, or on our forum, please do,
if nothing else, it might influence someone else to check
them out (or motivate us to find more hours in the day
to make them!)
11/27/06
Stress Factory is Here:
Don't miss this Sunday, 12/03/06 as Kelley Page
and Bob Whitely perform Stress Factory at Meadows Fellowship
in Las Vegas, at both the 9am and 11am services. We'll
put it up as a podcast down the road a ways, but why
wait?
(Click here to see the logo)
Would you like us to perform at your church? Email us,
and let's talk!
11/7/06 Join
the Drama Guild:
2007 is almost here, and we are gearing up for an exciting
year of skits and plays, so now is the time to jump on board! We
need actors, but we also need people who don't want to act, but have
a heart to serve and time to get the job done! If you can sew, build
props, have props to donate, want to help out as a stage crew, directing,
working the lights, etc. we need you! If you want to be a drama prayer
warrior - we need that too!
10/12/06
Mark your Calendars!:
We've got 2 free events coming up in December
(they're all free)! Kelley Page and Bob Whitely will
be performing a skit called, Stress Factory at
the 11am service at Meadows Fellowship on Sunday, December
3rd. Expect to see this cool skit appear as a podcast
in 2007, but don't wait till then, join us on the 3rd!
Also coming up is our
Christmas play, Who Invited You?, a fun comedy with
a timely message and a cast of 10. We'll be performing Who
Invited You? on December 17th. Don't miss it!
10/05/06
Entertainment Watch:
Seen a good play, movie or TV series lately?
Tell us about it in the Forum! Know of one we should
all try to avoid - tell us about that too, so we can
save some money. Write a review! The forum is a cool
resource you can use to get plugged in and share ideas!
9/11/06 Talk
Back in our Forums:
Ok, I've noticed about a dozen members have joined our
forums and others that said they took a peek, but nobody's posting.
We've had to remove a number of spammers (i.e. they tend to post
advertisements for their own websites or go on about topics that
have nothing to do with drama, Christianity or anything remotely
relevant. There's a few of you on there that have websites listed
in your profiles that I know are not spammers. Don't be shy, post!
Many people I've talked to have never used a forum before. If you
have any questions, let us know and we'd be happy to tackle them.
Don't see a topic you want to comment on? Why not create your own
discussion thread! It really is fun, but please remember the purpose
of the Drama Guild forum. Thanks!
8/16/06
More Slideshows!:
We just added two more slideshows - our very
first play, Survivor: Wasteland, and our second play,
Let Me See A Smile! We didn't take many pictures way
back then, but if we find more, we'll add them in. Each
slideshow also includes the production credits and a
summary. If that's not enough, we usually have a script
available in the READ US section, and if they aren't
already available as a podcast, they will be soon!
If you haven't checked
out our Twice Born slideshow yet, make sure to check that one out
- it's our largest ever. Erik Singman did a great job for What Do
You Want, Blood? and you can see a slideshow of that as well. Our
next podcast will feature this fun play about trying to get into
heaven. It's a lot of fun, so don't miss it. If you haven't subscribed
to our podcast yet, now's the time.
8/5/06
Update!:
This has been an exciting week, seeing our first
podcast go live, and with the forums up-and-running,
plus bringing a whole new section to the site. As for
the podcast, we're currently at the iTunes Music Store
for those using macs, and for everyone else, you can
see our podcasts at both podcastalley.com and podcast.net.
We will add more sections to the forums as we start to
grow. We'll also be fleshing out the new section at the
bottom of this page, offering additional resources and
fun stuff as the weeks roll on.
7/20/06 Coming
Soon!:
Ok, the next fellowship is officially 7/30/06. Mark your
calendars! Also, our Forums will be fully operational shortly, and
our podcasts ... well, we're taking a little extra time to spruce
them up pretty, so be patient, their coming soon!
6/27/06
Got Drama?:
Why not join us for our 4th Drama Fellowship?
Sunday 7/30/06, 2-4pm @ Meadows Fellowship Foursquare
church. Please RSVP. New to acting? Just want to join
the stage crew and eat munchies? Stop on by, we want
to get to know you better! Drama Fellowships are a monthly
event dedicated to building relationships, unity, casting,
practicing the art of drama ... and consuming munchies
(speaking of which, no one but the Host seems to be bringing
any! Don’t forget: The way to a director’s
heart is through his stomach! Ok, a cheap shot, but consider
bringing munchies, OK?!
6/25/06 Opportunities:
Want to know the latest? Want a part in an upcoming production?
Join us! If you plan on being in any drama event in 2006, make
sure not to miss our next fellowship - we’re laying out the
road map and assigning parts! Your level of participation in Drama
Guild events directly affects casting choices.
6/23/06 Hosting
the Drama Guild:
If your church is located in the Las Vegas area and you
are hoping to add drama to your services, now's a perfect time to
jump on board - we've got several projects planned for the coming
months! Join the Drama Guild as a Host Church and we'll visit your
church at a convenient time to perform drama for the glory of God!
If you are an actor at a church that doesn't have drama, we don't
want to steal you away from your church, but if you want to join
the drama guild, we'd love to have you. In fact, if you would like
to be in a Drama Guild production at your own church too, email us,
and then tell your pastor about our website!
6/15/06 Drama
Fellowship:
After a small, but exciting drama fellowship, we've nearly
completed casting for our play, Captain Awesome, and will begin rehearsing
in July. At the same time, we are also beginning rehearsals for a
wonderful little skit written by Bob Snook called Scrabble: Evolution,
which will be performed by Erik Singman and Evon Terando in late
July/early August. During the fellowship, we also got to enjoy the
missions trip performing the skit we've been working on, called
"The Package." They did a great job, and we look forward
to hearing how it went in the Philippines (our first missions skit!)
Sunday 6/6/06 Fellowship:
This Sunday, we’ll be treated to our first Missions skit performance,
as our missions team prepares to go to the Philippines next week.
Please join us in encouraging them and praying for them. (Please
also pray for them on their 2 week trip!) And, if you want to do
drama, make sure to attend, & let’s talk!
6/4/06 Fellowship:
Coming June 11th ... our 3rd Drama Fellowship! We are
so pleased to be able to get together once a month outside of rehearsals,
church, and busy lives and just hang out together, spur one another
on, pray, laugh, discuss the future, and have fun! We love new
faces, so join us 2-4 pm @ Meadows Fellowship on the 11th! Please
RSVP. Thanks!
5/25/06 The
Package Missions skit:
Rehearsals begin for this original skit, our first Missions
Outreach event! Our own Wayne Whiteman is spearheading the team.
We can't wait to begin rehearsing ... there's only about 2 weeks
till take off, but these guys are committed and we know that God
will use them in mighty ways for his glory!
4/20/06 Podcasting
Update:
We're all set to film our first Podcast! Thanks to Robert
Duran Jr. and Bob Duran, we are filming on May 11th, and we know
they'll do a great job! These two have been such a blessing to the
Drama Guild over the years, assisting with filming and photography,
video editing, etc. so a special thanks to them both (We couldn't
do it without you - you guys are awesome!)
4/20/06 3 Witnesses:
Bob will be performing his monologue again, this time
at Pastor Dominick's church, Growing In Grace, at the 10:30 am
service, Sunday, 4/30/06. Join us and make sure to thank Pastor
Dominick for opening his doors. Would you like us to come and perform
at your church? Email us!
4/8/06 A Tale
of 3 Witnesses
Bob Whitely will perform his original monologue, A Tale
of 3 Witnesses at both the 8:30 and 10:30 am services at Meadows
Fellowship on 4/16/06. Come by and bring a friend for this special
Easter Event!
4/5/06 Drama
Fellowship #2:
Wow, our best attendance yet at a Drama Guild ... um
... wait, that was our first one, but we've had workshops and orientations,
and never as big as our first Drama Fellowship! Thanks so much all
who attended. It was a blast, wasn't it! Our next fellowship is on
5/7/06. Hope to see you there!
3/18/06 New
monthly event:You are Invited to our 1st ever Drama Fellowship
on Sunday 4/2/06, from 2-4 pm at Meadows Fellowship Foursquare
church!
It’s Not a Meeting, Not a Workshop, Not a Rehearsal. It’s
smaller than a bread basket & larger than a ... wait, no ...
It’s Fun, Fellowship, Acting & Improv games ... oh, and
munchies too!
(Don’t miss it ... we’ve got some exciting news & a
door prize or two!) Munchies welcome. Childcare not available.
2/1/06 DRAMA GUILD ORIENTATION:
Join us this Sunday at Meadows Fellowship Four Square
Church! We are really excited about this latest skit,
and will be hosting a Drama Guild orientation soon
to go over future skits and projects. Join us this Sunday and see
what we're about. Then, contact Bob Whitely, and join us, as we
serve the Lord while having fun! We have a number of cool skits
(and plays) we could do ... so if you want to get involved, we'd
love to have you on board!
1/24/06 UNDER CONSTRUCTION :
We are
slowly redoing the Drama Guild website, adding new art,
videos and options (like hopefully a script page before too long
with available scripts). As there are only 24 hours in the day,
and we all have lives beyond the Drama Guild, we updating the site
as we find time. Thanks for being patient!
1/20/06 WHAT DO YOU WANT, BLOOD:Well,
we've had quite a break, and it seems everyone needed it. But we
haven't lost any enthusiasm or commitment to getting the good news
out there in this exciting ministry, and Erick Singman
and I will be performing an original skit in a couple weeks. What
Do You Want, Blood? is a cool skit and we'll have some pictures and
maybe even video up on the site as soon as we can catch our breath.
What does it take to get into Heaven? Swing by the Processing Center
at the Back Gates of Heaven on 2/6/06 and find out in a funny and
sometimes sobering look at one man's fate!
4/9/05 THE MARTIAN REPORTER:
Haven Whitely and I had a lot of fun doing this skit. It was his first
big part, and he was very nervous! I have to say he did a marvelous
job and I'm very proud of him! This just shows that if you have a heart
for doing things for God, he can help you through your fears or whatever
issues you have and then ... do some amazing things!
3/5/05 WHAT'S NEXT:
Well, we're getting ready to do a skit based on the Martian Reporter,
a surprisingly thoughtful skit that starts out light and takes off
running. Don't miss it! If you missed the January Drama Orientation
(and almost everyone did for some reason) email me and let's do some
drama for the Lord! We've got nearly a dozen exciting projects we can
do, but only if we have committed, active members. Don't miss out on
this exciting opportunity to serve the Lord through acting!!
11/1/04 JAN. DRAMA ORIENTATION:
If you missed the November Drama Orientation, you won't want to miss
this one - we're going to start casting for a number of skits and plays
during 2005!
11/1/04 NOV. DRAMA ORIENTATION:
At the Ministry Fair, we also announced our next Drama Orientation,
which is this Sunday, November 7th, from 2-4pm!! If God
is calling you to serve, think about joining the Drama Guild! Yes,
we need actors (even voice actors), but you don't have to have experience
(you'll get that soon enough), and we have lots of other opportunities.
People often forget that it takes a whole crew to do a production
right (just watch the credits at the end of a movie and
you'll get the idea). We need carpenters, prop makers,
make up artists, stage hands, audio/video, sound, lights, costumers,
etc. And if you just want to help support the Lord's work in this exciting
ministry through prayer or donations, we know God would bless that
too!
We have never charged for seeing our productions - we've always
relied on donations in order to purchase materials for
props, make up, etc. The only thing holding us back from moving forward
in some areas is a) We don't have enough active Drama Guild members
yet, and b) Finances are limited for larger productions at this time. This
will likely change as more people discover the power of drama and the
difference the Drama Guild can make through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We aren't worried though, we serve a great God!!
10/29/04 GIFT EXCHANGE AND MINISTRY FAIR:
This skit was a blast, and both performances went smoothly. After
each service, we participated in a Ministry Fair and were encouraged
to see some interest generated in doing drama in the future. Thanks,
Erik for helping out in our booth! We had a TV running showing trailers
and interviews from our various events, talked with some neat people
and had a lot of fun.
12/28/03 BOXES MONOLOGUE:
Taking place in the Drama Guild's World Mart (a persistent locale
also used in Gift Exchange and slated for use in other productions),
there were tons of props, including a shopping cart from Cost Plus
(Thanks!!!). Fortunately, most of the props were very simple and inexpensive
(except the elevator, which I made with the expert assistance of Ted
Ramey (Thanks, Ted!!). This was my hardest project to date, but we
hope other churches will join hands with us and one day we'll be able
to see it again, along with other plays and skits for God's glory!!
12/22/03 UPDATE:
This was a very exciting opportunity for me, and I was honored to
be able to serve the Lord in this manner. We saw two people get saved
and many hearts were touched by this sensitive and timely message.
Praise God, it all went smoothly!
12/11/03 MORE ON BOXES:
A little over a week away, Boxes will be my first Christmas monologue,
and I am very excited about it. Come join me for an intimate time as
I explore the tale of one man's struggle with temptation, self control
and a shattered marriage. It's a tearful journey of introspection and
discovery - don't miss it!
11/16/03 IT'S COMING:
In December, I'll be performing the monologue, Boxes, about a man
who is so completely absorbed with material possessions, that he is
losing everything that really matters to him, including his eight year
old son. Don't miss it!
9/25/03 POSTERS AND VIDEOS!:
Clicking on one of the mini play posters above will take you to a
Drama Guild Showcase page, displaying a larger pic, vital stats and
summary of the play, and a link to a sample movie clip of the play
performance. More movie clips will be added as time permits.
9/8/03 Road Signs and Promise Keepers:
Road Signs will be rescheduled as it is on the same weekend as a Promise
Keepers event in Las Vegas, and some of the cast are attending. Another
skit is being prepared for that date, TBA.
8/26/03 ROAD SIGNS AND BEYOND:
Ken Wilson, Lou Herbert and I will be performing Road Signs in October.
I'll post a flier soon. Nexus is being set aside for various reasons
I've explained already. I'll return to it later - you'll find out if
you watch for signs!
8/7/03 AUDITIONS:
Ok, here's the deal ... the Drama Guild is run by people
(like me) who have other jobs, and families, and those who participate
in this non-profit organization are also busy. What this amounts
to is ... a reduction in opportunities due to a reduction in available
actors and time. The last 3 actors I've talked with were interested,
but unavailable.
8/7/03 WINDOW SHOPPING:
When will Window Shopping hit the stage?: I am very excited
about this project even though it's just a skit. The only
thing stopping this one is that one of the actors has been very
sick. We could also use some extras (women only, no lines). I'll
keep you posted.
8/7/03 NEXUS:
As it turns out, Nexus is so Top Secret, that even I am not privy
to its progress ... just kidding. Um, Nexus is a screen play that I've
been working on. It's very big, very time consuming, and I just set
it aside for a few months to work on other projects, including skits
and a fantasy novel I am writing called BEYOND XANADU.
8/6/03 DRAGONBANE UPDATE:
The script has been started for this large production, but it's not
ready yet (and won't be any time soon). The script was set aside to
work on Happy Teeth, but that project merely languished for a time,
pushing Dragonbane back by 4 or 5 months.
I am currently looking for someone to co-author music for Dragonbane
(Do you have a talent for melody? If so, let me know! I can write the
lyrics, but melody isn't my specialty ... any takers? Email me!!)
I am still very excited about this project, but it's going to take
some time to prep before we can set up auditions.
8/5/03 HAPPY TEETH UPDATE:
We have cast the parts and started rehearsals twice, but each time,
an actor had to bail out for lack of time, so we're putting this one
on hold and moving forward.
8/3/03 WEBSITE FACELIFT:
I've finally found some time to update this page and many others.
(Thanks for your patience!) I will be adding some movie clips of Drama
Guild plays, skits, etc. sometime over the next few weeks (Lord willing).
I will also be adding new sections, like Auditions, and will be doing
even more organizing, so please check back!!
7/30/03 BYE HEATHER! :
We hope you can swing back for another visit before too long (maybe
do a play?!)
6/18/03 WELCOME BACK HEATHER!
Heather's a great gal who worked on several projects for the Drama
Guild, but moved out of town awhile back. We hope she'll come back
to stay one day (hint hint) - but till then, we'll have a blast visiting
in June!
6/17/03 GOD'S AWESOME:
Some of you have been contacting me lately about serving the Lord
in Drama - I've been seeing some new faces, and have sensed their enthusiasm
- this is encouraging! If I haven't gotten back to you yet, I will
soon - thanks for your interest!!
If you haven't read the 5/9/03 entry yet, please do (see archive)
If we are going to be useful to God, we must carefully consider each
step we take to make sure we are in line with God's plan for us. If
your life is too busy, you may want to spend some prayerful time considering
your activities.
It is possible to spend so much time serving the Lord that you are
neglecting other areas of your life that require your attention. This
is unhealthy (a sin actually). Also, if you are spending too much time
in worldly pursuits (we all need time to ourselves, but how much time?)
You may want to think about that too.
The reason I'm doing skits is to allow people who are busy a chance
to serve the Lord. Still, I've got some big projects coming up, and
I'm looking for a core team who are willing and able to serve the Lord
in a powerful way as he opens doors to change lives!

5/9/03 WHAT NEXT?:
We have a number of projects in the works, some of which are listed
above, all of which require commited actors and other enthusiasts to
be successful. Right now I have plans that would carry us to the end
of 2004, barring sudden inspiration from the Lord (an' I wouldn't want
to bar that!)
What is NEXUS? I'll go into that very exciting project soon. Don't
want to give away too much too soon, but it's going to be a blast!
Dragonbane is still very much alive also, and I've been designing the
dragon we'll be building - that mega project is slated for 2004 due
to the complexity and cost. (Yes, donations are welcome!)
5/8/03 HAPPY TEETH PLAY:
Unfortunately, the Happy Teeth play has been shelved temporarily.
We are hopeful that we'll be able to do the play later in the summer,
but are waiting upon the Lord to send us more actors! Meadows is a
fairly small church, and we are looking for more actors with a heart
for the Lord and time to serve in this exciting capacity.
We make every effort to produce professional-quality plays, and as
such, will not rush forward and "wing it" just to get a play
out. We are committed to "doing it right." If you are of
like mind on these issues, contact me!
4/10/03 1ST REHEARSAL:
Casting isn't complete, but we're starting anyway. If you are in the
Happy Teeth cast, our first rehearsal:
Tuesday night (Meadows Fellowship)
6:30 pm (please don't be late!) Approx 2 hours.
Email me with questions. Let's roll!
4/10/03 Acting Opportunities:
The cast is almost complete for Happy Teeth (short play)! We are presently
taking auditions for the last role:
Energetic female between the ages of 20 and 45
Also, we still need 2-3 females to play extras in the July skit, Window
Shopping. Not enough? Anyone interested in doing drama ... contact
me!
4/4/03 MORE ON HAPPY TEETH:
We're getting ready to start rehearsals
for our June 15th performance, so keep an eye on this website. Also,
if you have experience in lighting, prop design or would like to assist
with carpentry, stage help or in any other capacity, email me!
4/4/03 Opportunities/Props, etc.:
Don't forget we're still looking for a special chair to use in the
next play! Enjoy garage sales and hunting for things? Become the Drama
Guild's Master of Props! We're also looking for Assistant Directors
and other administrative types. We're always looking for more actors
and will post upcoming acting opportunities here in the days ahead,
so check back!
4/3/03 ACTING WORKSHOP:
Well, we had a blast at our last Workshop, and we're looking forward
to the next one ... coming up later this month. If you're interested
in positions within the Drama Guild, make sure not to miss this event,
as we're getting ready to assign those as well.
Drama is a powerful tool for reaching people with the Good News, so
don't miss this opportunity - get involved! Interested in public speaking?
We will be brushing up on those skills as well. Hope to see you there!
2/28/03 PROP NEEDS:
We still need a chair for the upcoming skit, Happy Teeth. A dentist
chair of sorts - a beautician's chair would probably do the trick!
Any ideas or know how I can borrow/get one? Let me know asap. Thanks!!!
2/27/03 WORKSHOP:
It's coming! Don't miss out on a wonderful time of
acting, games and fellowship. We've got some exciting things planned,
so if you want to be a part of it, join us!
2/4/03 WORKSHOP:
Looking ahead, it seems the 3rd Saturday of the
month works best, so we're switching to that. All future workshops
until further notice will be every 3rd Sat from 2-4 pm. We're going
to attempt to be consistent, but it never hurts to look here for
updates. Life does sometimes get in the way as we all know. Hope
to see ya there!
1/31/03 MARCH WORKSHOP:
Well, we're getting a late start (life got
in the way), but we're finally off an' rolling. I will host 1 acting
workshop each month starting in March, and we're going to have a
blast! Don't miss this opportunity to get involved. We are also
looking for Pastors interested in using drama to spread the good
news, and anyone with prop-making skills, lighting, sound, costuming
skills, or just someone with a little extra money looking for a
good ministry to donate to!
Also, as I will be selecting actors for various roles as the year
progresses, the workshop is a good place to be.
12/13/02 DEC. WORKSHOP:
Unfortunately, the Drama Guild's first workshop had to be canceled.
It seems the holidays have become a bit of a distraction for some,
and we apologize for any inconvenience to those that did show up.
It is vital that if we are to move forward effectively in 2003 , we
need carefully consider what ministries we commit to, and to be mindful
of what God wants to accomplish through us.
Ken Wilson, with the Christian Action Council Theater Group was going
to host the workshop, and I was really looking forward to seeing what
he's cooked up. Ken and I have worked on many projects together over
the years, and I rarely saw him as enthusiastic as when he showed up
to run the seminar/workshop. If all goes well, he will be hosting the
rescheduled workshop (to be announced) sometime in January.
It is our goal to host one workshop a month during 2003, in addition
to preparing skits and plays. Ken will be busy over at C.A.C. gearing
up for another performance of Tilly, by Frank Peretti, but I'll try
to snag him for a skit or play in the months ahead.
